The DeShong Mansion - Early 2000s.
Riding by the mansion again for the first time in a while yesterday, March 4, 2014, I remembered this photo I took. It was surprising to see that now it looked like it was being torn down and since I couldn’t take a photo of it at the time, I’m hoping I still can soon. Anyway, I was surprised to see it in its current state because I thought I had heard something a while back about it possibly being restored. But I never heard anything more about it. As someone who loves history, old buildings and their architecture, I’m always hoping that one historic building or another will be saved and restored for whatever potential new use. So, it was sad to see the mansion’s demise. If I’m able to get one more photo, I’ll post it on here.
I took this photo a few years ago, but it’s one of my favorite springtime scenes because of the relaxing spot to enjoy warm weather.
The way this winter has been, I can’t wait to get out and do a lot of traveling, from day trips throughout the mid-Atlantic to a couple weeks possibly (hopefully) abroad. I still need to get a passport, so for now, here’s a few not-so-distant places and events I want to go to this year, besides my upcoming trip to NYC:
- Philadelphia (Pompeii exhibit at the Franklin Institute, S.S. United States exhibit coming up at the Independence Seaport Museum)
- Delaware (Downton Abbey costume exhibit at Winterthur, visit lighthouses)
- Washington, D.C.
- Baltimore & Havre de Grace, Md.
- Highlands, N.J.
Most of the destinations themselves would be repeat visits for me, except for the Highlands area of New Jersey. D.C., Baltimore and Havre de Grace…I haven’t been to those in years, not since before I started with digital photography in the mid to late 2000s. Wherever I go, I’ll post photos on here as well as blog about the trips on WordPress. I also want to work on some creative nonfiction writing inspired by some of these travel experiences, for material toward my MFA. If I do get to go abroad this summer, I would love to go to Ireland!

So excited to be heading back to New York City soon and to see “Of Mice and Men,” starring James Franco, Leighton Meester and Chris O’Dowd, on Broadway! I just bought tickets yesterday for the show and now, just have to get bus tickets from a local company. That’s part of why I’m not staying overnight this time around, like I did back in late October. I think when I do stay overnight there again, it might just be when I’m not going to see a show. I hope that can be a weekend visit. But while I’m there for this upcoming trip, I would love to make a stop at Serendipity 3 for ice cream and also to check out the Strand Bookstore. Maybe I’ll buy tickets for one of the city sightseeing bus tours to get around within NYC.
Whenever I get to visit Australia, I definitely want to see this area; so stunning!
